Suffice to say, the atmosphere in Puerto Viejo, which is located in the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, is quite different from the beach towns facing the Pacific. For one, Puerto Viejo has a more reggae bit to it, livelier, and arguably closer to Mother Nature. Amidst all of the beaches, hotels, and restaurants in Puerto Viejo, perhaps nothing could be much closer to this observed feel than KOKi Beach.

KOKi Beach is located near the center of Puerto Viejo. It's pretty difficult to miss because of the colorful sign located right outside and the jubilant atmosphere that you will experience every now and then once you make your way around town. KOKi Beach tries to capture the very essence of Costa Rican culture by trying to go for an eco-friendly image.

The materials used in the construction of the restaurant are mainly recycled and reused from local materials (some even came from demolished homes) through the help of local artisans and indigenous people, who were responsible for the beads, stones, and patterns that underline the surrounding decorations of the restaurant. Once you are already inside, you can have an idea of just how much work was put into the decors that adorn the place and make the restaurant's atmosphere typical but unique among Puerto Viejo restaurants.

Following the trends in the rest of Puerto Viejo, KOKi Beach has a very Caribbean vibe to it. Interestingly, you don't even get Jamaican music played around here. It tries to compliment the funky atmosphere around Puerto Viejo with a bit of sophistication while not forgetting about its eco-friendly thrust. For many people who visit Puerto Viejo for the first time, they just go here because this is simply the best place to be in for a few drinks and laughs with your close friends. As for the food, the restaurant's menu features what it calls "Latin fusion" cuisine, wherein inspiration for the food are taken from local Costa Rican fare as well as most of Latin America.
