Costa Rica has an ample number of national parks and other natural beauties which will surely mesmerize you to the ultimate level of zenith. The name Irazu was coined from “Istaru” that was an Indian palisade in the 16th century constructed above the village of cot on the southern slope. The national park is located at a distance of just 15 kilometers from the City of Cartago in the north eastern side. The park covers an area of massive 2309 hectares. The popular volcano in the park was previously known as “Volcano of Thunder and Tremors”. Around 400 hectares of land in the park is filled with volcanic scoria and ash. There are innumerous cloud forests which are seriously altered by the eruptions from the volcano.

The park provides habitat to a huge number of different species of birds and animals. Some of them are coyotes, tiger cats, Eastern cottontails, long-tailed weasles, black-faced solitaires and clay colored robins. The eruptions from the volcano have a long history that instilled fear in the citizens and inhabitants of Cartago. The sudden eruptions always created concerns in the mind of central region citizens and the Costa Rica’s Government. The first eruption got recorded in the year 1723. After that disastrous eruption, a huge amount of ash and other materials resulted out of eruptions got accumulated in the close proximity thus causing serious damage to the industry and agriculture.

The climate generally remains damp and cold in the park. You can visit the park to explore the huge options of wildlife and experience the power of the volcano that has caused real damage in the past.
